Max Neumann and Sarah Crowley have claimed the men’s and women’s professional titles at the Cairns Airport Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship in Cairns.

Max Neumann called in to Triple M Cairns to chat to Bodge about the mental strength needed to go from thinking the race was over and lost, to coming back and becoming triumphant in front of the crowds of spectators, also paying respect to second place Braden Currie, who made his comeback to the event after two years.

“I thought, you know, it’s all over,” Max said.

“I just stuck to my plan and ended up taking the win. To have competitors like Braden here, it’s just great to have internationals back.”

“I just remember yesterday, running through the crowds, and you just get goosebumps, your hair just hair stands up and it's just so special,” he said.

“Having the crowds back just makes the event so special and really does bring you through the end.”
