Dale Thomas has been officially announced as a member of the Triple M Footy family, joining Triple M's Hot Breakfast to make the announcement on Wednesday morning.

In doing so, he opened up on his footy career and the most brutal and difficult parts of it, including this moment when he first joined Carlton.

"I was universally loved by Collingwood supporters, footy was great, life was great, everything was on the up," he told Triple M's Hot Breakfast.

He credited a few "genuinely fantastic" people - including Eddie McGuire and Mick Malthouse as well as his family - for having his back along the way.

"Coming across and then taking on the weight of the world and every problem that came with that," he revealed.

"I expected to go to Carlton and still be a really good player, to win over the Carlton fans, to have the Collingwood fans go 'yeah, thanks for your service, but on you get'.

"In the end, it felt like the entire AFL world hated me...I just had no idea how to deal with it, in the end."
