Credibility is key

Liberal Garth Hamilton MP, who will stay in the seat of Groom following the election, says the Liberal Party needs to return to its base values if it wants to succeed.

The Liberal Party saw a huge swing against them in the weekend’s election, with some now calling Queensland “Greensland” in jest.

Speaking to Lee this morning, he said he felt there was no single issue that caused the swing against the Liberal party.

"I’ve thought a lot about this over the weekend, Lee. And if I look back across my term, I don’t think there’s one single issue that’s caused this result - and there have been some big challenges we’ve gone through.”

“If one thing, it comes down to credibility, when we speak on issues we need it to be credible. When we put something on the table we need to epee to believe that’s what we want to do and trust us that that’s our best judgment call.”

With the Liberal Party leadership role now up for the taking - and rumours Peter Dutton will take the job, he said he'd be happy to work with him:

“He’s certainly a man with integrity a lot of people trust. I think he understands and accepts the issues we have to deal with.”
