Federal Health minister Greg Hunt explained the sources of the spike in Covid-19 cases in Victoria on the Hot Breakfast this morning.

“You’ve had a couple of sources,” Hunt said.

“Hotel quarantine… where it’s been passed from people who were in quarantine to the security guards, that’s then been passed amongst the security guards we believe.

“Then a second thing is there has been some family cases, so what’s known as family transmission, we’ve had larger family get togethers, people are naturally hugging.”

Hunt also stressed that by global standards, Victoria and Australia are handling the Covid situation very well.

“As a city, as a country, how are we going?” he asked.

“Generally, overwhelmingly well.

“There is a level of cases in Melbourne that’s still in the community, people are out being tested, which is doing the right thing.

“There are actually a lot of testing stations, almost 90 in Victoria, so if you need help go to health.gov.au and just look up testing… that testing allows us to know whether or not it’s spreading in an area, and to trace down everybody that’s got it.”

Hunt also discussed the NSW v Victoria divide and more.
