The Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) over at the CERN research facility in Geneva, Switzerland, has been turned back on after four years of repairs and upgrades.

Ten years ago at the CERN facility, the Higgs-Boson particle, sometimes referred to as the God Particle, was discovered. The discovery came two years after the LHC was turned on for the first time.

While many of the particles properties still remain a mystery, it didn't prevent over 350 papers being published on the discovery. The goal now is to learn more about the 'God particle's properties.

Our breakfast radio host, Jason 'Bodge' Bodger, took it upon himself to call Geneva and find out whether there was any credence to the conspiracy theories surrounding the research. Physicist Steven Goldfarb, who is working on the ATLAS Experiment, one of the four big experiments happening at CERN at the moment, gave Bodge nearly an hour of his time to go through work being done, and put to rest some of the concerns surrounding what is happening at CERN, regarding the opening of portals to other dimensions.

After a couple of unnerving jokes about actually being a "NICE demon" Mr.  said nothing nefarious was happening at the CERN facility.

The LHC will run continuously for nearly four years, while scientists do an array of experiments and research into Dark Matter.
